Self-described bitcoin development company MicroStrategy (MSTR) announced its current total bitcoin holdings of 439,000 BTC after finishing a purchase of 15,350 BTC on December 15.

MicroStrategy's $1.5 billion purchase came at an average price of $100,386 per bitcoin, bringing total holdings worth $45.6 billion at current market values. The average purchase price for the company's bitcoin is $61,725.

Financing for the recent purchase was achieved through share sales from the company's ATM program. Before the announcement, MicroStrategy had $9.19 billion remaining in its ATM offerings, reduced to $7.65 billion after this acquisition as per the latest filing.

Executive Chairman Michael Saylor hinted at the announcement a day before through social media. Notably, MicroStrategy has consistently made bitcoin purchase announcements on Mondays prior to U.S. market openings.

Recently, MicroStrategy entered the Nasdaq 100 index, effective from December 23.

Moreover, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) has adopted fair value accounting for bitcoin and digital assets for fiscal years post December 15, 2024.

This new rule allows companies to recognize fair value gains and losses on digital holdings in their net income, improving transparency in financial reporting for bitcoin assets.

In market responses, MicroStrategy's shares rose by 4% in pre-market trading to $425 per share, while bitcoin prices have exceeded $104,000, nearing an all-time high of over $106,000.

Additionally, Semler Scientific (SMLR) has expanded its holdings by acquiring 211 BTC for $421.5 million, paying $101,890 per coin and now holding a total of 2,084 BTC.
