Bubblemaps Critiques Soulja Boy's Recent Apology for Meme Coin Promotions
Bubblemaps expresses skepticism towards Soulja Boy's apology regarding his involvement in meme coin promotions, highlighting a pattern of repeated behavior.
American rapper and producer, DeAndre Cortez Way, known as Soulja Boy, is in the spotlight again regarding his previous involvement in cryptocurrency and NFT promotions. Recently, he faced criticism from the analytics platform Bubblemaps over a new wave of meme coin promotions.
Soulja Boy’s Attempt at Clarity
Soulja Boy issued a tweet to clarify his position, asserting that he was unaware of Sahil Arora’s involvement or that Arora was compensating him for promoting any fraudulent schemes. He admitted to accepting paid promotions without a thorough understanding of the cryptocurrency and NFT landscape, offering apologies to those who invested and suffered losses. He stated he has learned from his earlier misjudgments.
While partially accepting responsibility for not conducting proper research, he remarked,
“Growth is learning from mistakes.”
This apology did not significantly change public perception. Bubblemaps mocked his message and highlighted a recurring behavior pattern that paints him as a consistent offender. The platform provided a sarcastic timeline showing that Soulja Boy promoted numerous scam tokens in 2021, profited from them, and later disappeared from the scene only to resurface four years later with new meme coins, which ultimately failed.
Soulja Boy’s Reaction
After being called out, Bubblemaps noted that Soulja Boy blocked them on X but attempted to distance himself from responsibility while blaming Arora. He has reentered the crypto scene as a “creator” on the Base platform, repeating previous behaviors.
The controversy stems from a 2023 report by ZachXBT, revealing Soulja Boy’s extensive ties to several crypto and NFT promotions, identifying 73 linked promotions and 16 NFT projects connected to scams, from which he allegedly earned over $730,000.
Ongoing Criticism
The revelations sparked backlash from the crypto community, raising concerns about Soulja Boy’s accountability toward his followers and investors who faced financial loss. Critics argue that even if he was unaware of fraudulent activities, his history of promoting unreliable projects erodes trust in the crypto space. In 2022, he faced a lawsuit alongside other celebrities like Nick Carter, Ben Phillips, and Lil Yachty due to their roles in the failed SafeMoon cryptocurrency project, accused of luring investors through misleading promotions.
