US Senator Queries DeFi Regulation Amidst Crypto Legislation Delay

In a recent letter, Senator Elizabeth Warren requests information regarding investigations into decentralized finance platforms like PancakeSwap and Uniswap from U.S. officials.

As the U.S. Senate prepares to adjourn for the holiday season, Senator Elizabeth Warren is demanding clarity from officials in the Justice and Treasury Departments regarding any investigations into decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms, particularly PancakeSwap and Uniswap. In a letter sent on Monday to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, she expressed concerns about the national security implications presented by such crypto exchanges.

Warren’s inquiries come as part of her concerns regarding potential political interference in the regulatory landscape surrounding cryptocurrencies. She pointed to allegations of money laundering linked to North Korea and called for a response by January 12.

“The public deserves to know whether you are investigating the serious risks identified by national security experts and the crypto industry itself,” Warren emphasized in her correspondence.

This inquiry is timely as some Senate Republicans were looking to deliberate on the proposed digital market structure legislation, known as the Responsible Financial Innovation Act, before the year concludes. However, Chairman Tim Scott confirmed that a markup meeting on this legislation has now been postponed until 2026.

Moreover, Warren noted that PancakeSwap might be promoting digital assets associated with the Trump family’s primary crypto-related company. This has raised various concerns regarding conflicts of interest and influence stemming from the presidential family.

In other news, John Deaton, a lawyer advocating for XRP holders, has announced his intention to challenge Warren again in the upcoming 2026 Congressional elections.
