Cynthia Lummis, Key Supporter of Bitcoin, Will Depart from Senate

Cynthia Lummis, a prominent advocate for Bitcoin in the U.S. Senate, announces she will not run for reelection due to personal reasons.

Cynthia Lummis, a 71-year-old lawyer and politician serving as the junior United States senator from Wyoming since 2021, has announced her decision not to seek reelection.

She is recognized for her steadfast support of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, having led several initiatives to promote pro-digital-asset legislation.

After expressing gratitude to her home state for the incredible honor of representing it in the Senate, Lummis acknowledged that she does not have the energy for six more years at such a demanding pace. “I feel like a sprinter in a marathon,” she remarked, explaining that her energy levels do not align with the requirements of her role.

Lummis was a pioneer among politicians supporting Bitcoin at a time when many in the U.S. government opposed it. Reports indicate that she purchased Bitcoin in 2013, later increasing her holdings, with records showing she acquired between $50,000 and $100,000 worth of it in August 2021. Throughout her political career, she has consistently made pro-Bitcoin statements, including predictions about its future significance.

She gained particular acclaim for proposing a strategic Bitcoin reserve in the United States and has introduced various pro-crypto bills—a testament to her supportive stance on the cryptocurrency market.
