Samourai Co-founder Advocates for Trump Pardon Amid Legal Troubles

Keonne Rodriguez is calling for a pardon from President Trump, claiming his prosecution is politically motivated as he faces a five-year prison sentence.

Keonne Rodriguez, who has admitted guilt to one felony charge for his involvement with Samourai Wallet, is urging President Donald Trump to issue a pardon as he prepares to start a five-year sentence for running an unlicensed money transmission service.

Rodriguez claims in his recent X post that his actions had no real victims and holds the Biden Administration’s Department of Justice responsible for what he describes as politically motivated legal actions against him. He maintained that there was a targeted effort against him stemming from a broader political agenda against innovation in America.

In his message directed at Trump, he expressed optimism that the president would intervene on his and fellow executive William “Bill” Lonergan Hill’s behalf, the latter having also received a prison sentence of four years. Rodriguez stated, “I hold out hope that [Trump] is a fair leader, a person of the public, who will recognize this prosecution for what it truly is: an assault on innovation and the liberties of free citizens.”

Rodriguez’s appeal comes after Trump mentioned he would consider reviewing the case but left questions about whether an official pardon application was made. His words echoed sentiments from past presidential pardons, as echoed by Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who remarked on previous pardons being part of a negative legacy from the prior administration.

In notable examples from before, Trump pardoned Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht shortly after taking office and offered clemency to former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, who only served four months following a felony charge linked to the exchange’s compliance with anti-money laundering laws.

Other crypto leaders have effectively sought pardons from Trump in the past, demonstrating a possible trend of successful lobbying by certain sectors in the industry.
