Ethereum’s mainnet has recently outperformed all layer-2 networks in terms of daily active users, although security analysts point to ongoing address poisoning attacks as a possible reason for the increase.
Key Insights:
- On January 16, active addresses nearly reached 1 million daily, with current counts settling around 945,000.
- The surge surpasses that of popular layer-2 solutions such as Arbitrum One.
- Experts warn that some of this activity may not stem from genuine users, highlighting concerns over address poisoning tactics used by fraudsters.
Address Poisoning Attack:
Security researcher Andrey Sergeenkov indicated that some of the increased activity could be due to a strategy where scammers send small transactions from addresses similar to legitimate ones, tricking users into making mistakes.
Despite concerns of less-than-authentic activity, Ethereum maintains its position as the leading blockchain for asset tokenization, hosting more than $400 billion in assets. The surge in user engagement follows the successful implementation of the Fusaka upgrade, which drastically lowered gas fees.
