Crypto Press Releases: Dominance of Risky Projects Raises Ethical Concerns

A recent report suggests that the majority of crypto press releases originate from high-risk or scam projects, igniting discussions on disclosures and market integrity.

More than 60% of crypto press releases between June and November 2025 were linked to projects identified as “high-risk” or scams, as revealed by a recent industry report.

The crypto communications company Chainstory analyzed nearly 2,900 press releases and flagged 62.5% associated with high-risk activities, indicating a prevalence of suspicious practices aimed at influencing market perceptions and manipulating token prices.

“We escalated a project to high risk only when we identified multiple independent red flags,” said Tal Shmuel Harel of Chainstory.

Chainstory found that legitimate projects often avoid mass press release strategies, relying instead on organic media coverage or targeted communication efforts, while higher-risk projects saturate the market with announcements.

The report also highlighted that press releases can undermine journalistic integrity by allowing issuers to bypass editorial checks, potentially leading to market manipulation.

“Cheap talk (press releases) can move prices,” Harel noted, highlighting concerns within regulatory environments where misleading information has frequently catalyzed market fluctuations.

Although press releases serve to provide official updates, the current landscape indicates that high-risk projects dominate the conversation, raising ethical questions about disclosure and the effectiveness of traditional media in this sphere.
