Aster's Layer-1 Blockchain Testnet Has Launched, Mainnet Expected in Early 2026
Aster's decentralized exchange progresses with the launch of its layer-1 blockchain testnet, aiming for a mainnet release in Q1 2026.
The Aster decentralized exchange (DEX) and perpetual futures platform announced that its layer-1 blockchain testnet is now operational. The launch signals a prospective rollout of the Aster layer-1 mainnet in the first quarter of 2026.
Upcoming features include fiat currency integration, the release of the Aster code for developers, and the anticipated launch of the L1 mainnet. Aster aims to enhance its infrastructure, token utility, and community engagement in the coming year.
In March 2025, Aster transitioned to a perpetual futures DEX to compete with other such platforms. With the advent of its specialized layer-1 chain, Aster aligns with emerging trends among Web3 projects, which are increasingly adopting custom blockchains to facilitate higher transaction volumes.
The prior year saw a significant increase in trading volume for perpetual DEXs, with cumulative trading volume escalating from $4 trillion to over $12 trillion, reflecting heightened investor interest in crypto derivative products. Monthly trading surpassed the $1 trillion mark during the last quarter of 2025, highlighting the robust demand for on-chain financial transactions.
