The Losses Drake Endured from Betting on the Super Bowl
Canadian rapper Drake experiences significant losses betting on sports, particularly during the Super Bowl.
The well-known rapper Aubrey Drake Graham, commonly known as Drake, recently experienced a major loss in the world of cryptocurrency after he placed a bet during the Super Bowl.
Over the years, Drake has reportedly lost millions of dollars in Bitcoin (BTC) through various public bets he has made, often backing teams in football, basketball, and other sports that fail to deliver victory in return.
Drake’s Most Recent Bitcoin Loss
The Super Bowl, airing on February 8 and regarded as one of the most-watched sporting events worldwide, pitted the Seattle Seahawks against the New England Patriots at Levi’s Stadium. It’s typically the most heavily wagered single sporting event in the U.S., and rapper Drake sought to try his luck by placing a $1 million wager in Bitcoin on the Patriots.
With odds set at 2.95, he stood to profit nearly $2 million had his team won. Unfortunately for Drake, the Seahawks claimed victory with a 29-13 score.
History of Betting on Sports
Drake is no stranger to betting on sports events, though his success rate leaves much to be desired. In 2022, he wagered over $600,000 on Arsenal to defeat Leeds United and on FC Barcelona to triumph in ‘El Clásico’ against their rival, Real Madrid. His bets resulted in losses again as Real Madrid won the game.
Moreover, just before the New Year, Drake laid down $700,000 in Bitcoin on UFC fighter Sean Strickland to defeat Dricus du Plessis, who ultimately secured the win by a split decision. Even riskier, he later bet $300,000 on Canada’s team to beat Argentina in a crucial match; Argentina ultimately prevailed, reinforcing the so-called ‘Drake curse’, a meme referring to the superstition that when he bets on or supports a team, they are likely to lose.
