The Fairshake political action committee (PAC) has reported a new wave of spending on Illinois political candidates in the lead-up to the U.S. midterm elections, currently less than eight months away.
The PAC, funded by cryptocurrency interests, disclosed its activities in filings submitted to the Federal Election Commission. They noted a media purchase totaling $16,000 aimed at opposing Illinois state representative La Shawn Ford in his 2026 congressional run, adding to the approximately $1.8 million already invested in the race. Primary elections are scheduled to take place on March 17.
Additionally, earlier disclosures revealed that Fairshake has spent over $5.5 million opposing Juliana Stratton, the incumbent Lieutenant Governor and a Democratic candidate for the upcoming Senate elections. A connected group, Protect Progress, reported spending around $84,000 to back Nikki Budzinski for her House campaign and $90,000 for Robin Kelly’s Senate bid in Illinois.
According to reports from The Daily Northwestern, Fairshake and its affiliates have collectively dedicated around $8.6 million to races in Illinois, marking a substantial sixfold increase from their expenditures in the previous 2024 elections. The PAC has a significant backing of $193 million sourced from the crypto sector, explicitly stating its goal to oppose politicians antagonistic toward cryptocurrency while endorsing those supportive of the industry in the upcoming elections.
In addition, Fairshake has already gestured towards involvement in primary elections in Texas and other states, where they have strategically invested in campaigns opposing candidates like Al Green, who has been serving in Congress since 2005. Although Democratic candidate Christian Menefee, regarded as a supporter of crypto, failed to win outright against Green, both will face off in a runoff scheduled for May.
