Forbes’ recently released 2026 Billionaires list ranks Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) higher than tech magnate Bill Gates. However, Zhao disputes the numbers stated.

CZ Outranks Gates in Forbes Billionaire List
Frequent updates show a live estimate of wealth among many influential persons globally. As of March 11, 2026, Zhao’s fortune has reportedly continued to rise, primarily due to his investment in Binance. In contrast, Gates’ wealth has remained stable as it’s significantly tied to his Microsoft shares and charity efforts.
Zhao claims the Forbes figures are inaccurate. In a recent post, he expressed:
“Didn’t read the Forbes article, but if you just look at the little chart 👇, you know it’s wrong.”
He further questioned the metrics used, noting a significant decline in crypto values affecting net worth assessment. Zhao referred to the 2026 drop in prices but an increase in his reported wealth.
Forbes clarified that their evaluations include various assets controlled by billionaires, like stakes in public and private companies. Most of Zhao’s wealth appears to derive from his 90% ownership stake in Binance and a considerable holding of BNB tokens.
On the opposite side, Gates has seen his Microsoft stake shrink below 1% due to extensive philanthropy, contributing to a significant decline in his net worth. His collaboration with the Gates Foundation reflects his commitment to charitable causes, with over $59 billion donated recently.
Forbes provides these insights through comprehensive analysis, ensuring that the wealth estimates reflect current investment conditions.
