Crypto Millionaire's Project Could Provide Nevis Residents with $100 Monthly

Olivier Janssens' ambitious plan aims to offer Nevis residents $100 a month, sparking local controversy pending government approval.

Belgian-born crypto millionaire Olivier Janssens has proposed a plan to pay Nevis residents $100 per month, contingent on government approval of his development for a tech-oriented libertarian community on the Caribbean island. The initiative called Destiny aims to acquire and redevelop approximately 2,400 acres of land, promising to start payments as soon as the final government agreement is secured.

Initially, the project had pledged 30 East Caribbean dollars (approximately $11) per month back in November 2025.

This offer has sparked heated criticism among local opponents, suggesting it is a strategy to sway public opinion and secure governmental consent.

Kelvin Daly, from the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP), denounced this move as an effort to pressure the government into accepting the plans, asserting on Facebook:

“This is influence buying, a clear attempt by a private developer to interfere in the domestic socioeconomic and political affairs of our country.”

Daly called on local authorities to scrutinize the initiative for potential violations of the Anti-Corruption Act.

Additionally, Destiny is pursuing authorization under the Special Sustainability Zones framework, established in 2025, which facilitates such developments. The project envisions a $50 million investment in Nevis for infrastructure, including hospitals and job creation, while committing to share a portion of profits with residents.

Notably, Olivier Janssens once served on the Bitcoin Foundation’s board and has been an advocate for tech-friendly communities. His peer Balaji Srinivasan also outlined a similar vision, encouraging tech enthusiasts to collectively secure land for supportive environments, which he referred to as the ultimate escape from failing institutional frameworks in the U.S.
