Do Kwon’s Criminal Proceedings Delayed Until 2026 Due to Evidence Challenges

Do Kwon's upcoming criminal trial faces potential delays as prosecutors tackle a significant amount of evidence. The trial is currently set for January 2026.

Trial Delay for Do Kwon

The criminal proceedings against Do Kwon, co-founder of Terraform Labs, are tentatively scheduled for January 2026. This timeline allows both prosecutors and the defense to handle a vast database of evidence.

During an initial court session in Manhattan, lead prosecutor Jared Lenow indicated potential setbacks as they face difficulties accessing encrypted data and unlocking four mobile phones.

District Judge Paul Engelmayer remarked that such a long wait before starting a trial is unprecedented in his tenure on the bench. Kwon has adhered to his plea of not guilty in connection with various charges related to the collapse of the Terra ecosystem. He currently remains in custody in a Montenegrin facility after being extradited to the U.S. on December 31, 2023.

Key Points:

  • Expected trial commencement is set for January 2026.
  • Prosecutors seek to decipher encrypted content and translate Korean communications.
  • Kwon has been detained for 22 months in Montenegro.

The next court discussion is on March 6 at 11 a.m. Eastern.
