Appchains are launching on Starknet, the layer-2 blockchain on Ethereum known for its embrace of zero-knowledge (ZK) cryptography. StarkWare, the primary developer of Starknet, shared the news, stating that its SN Stack enables developers to easily build blockchains tailored for specific crypto applications.
In July 2023, StarkWare announced its efforts to create a customizable stack allowing developers to forge their own blockchains, following similar initiatives from competing layer-2 blockchains that enhance Ethereum's capabilities.
StarkWare, founded in 2018, was among the pioneers in utilizing ZK cryptography, a technology increasingly recognized as vital for next-gen blockchains. Unlike typical optimistic layer-2 solutions, ZK-based solutions such as StarkWare are seen as superior due to their enhanced security, even if they prove more challenging and costly to develop.
“From now on, projects will be able to build app-chains using the gold-standard ZK-STARK cryptography with the ease and low cost that has only been possible with optimistic rollups,” said StarkWare co-founder and CEO Eli Ben-Sasson.
The SN Stack features various options tailored for different developers. As remarked in a press release, developers can select from Madara, a flexible open-source framework, Dojo, optimized for gaming and on-chain applications, or the StarkWare Sequencer, offering comprehensive infrastructure for public Starknet.
