Singapore Restricts Access to Polymarket Following Actions in Taiwan and France

Singapore's Gambling Regulatory Authority has mandated local ISPs to block Polymarket after similar measures were implemented in Taiwan and France.

Key Points:

  • Singapore's Gambling Regulatory Authority has compelled local Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to restrict access to Polymarket.
  • Authorities in Taiwan and France have also taken action against the prediction market platform under local gambling laws.

Another jurisdiction has Polymarket in its sights. Over the weekend, Singapore's Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) ordered local ISPs to block access to the prediction market platform, according to reports from users in the city-state.

polymarket在坡正式定义为博彩网站,想下注只能去国营博彩公司哦,否则面临罚款和坐牢哦
(Polymarket is officially defined as a gambling site in Singapore; if you want to bet, you can only go to the state-owned betting companies, otherwise you will face fines and imprisonment.)

The announcement warned users: "You have attempted to access an illegal gambling site hosted by an unlicensed gambling service provider," adding that those who engage with unlicensed operators could face a fine of up to SGD 10,000 (approximately $7,200) or a jail term of up to 6 months.

The GRA has yet to publicly comment on the matter, nor have they initiated any enforcement actions against Polymarket, as listed in their public directory.

Taiwan was the first region to actively block its citizens from using Polymarket. Local law enforcement has arrested 17 individuals on the island for betting in a recent presidential election.

Local Taiwanese election law explicitly forbids wagering on election outcomes.

Polymarket has also faced actions from gaming authorities in France, which has prevented users in that country from accessing the platform.

Recently, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission subpoenaed Coinbase for information regarding U.S. nationals trading on Polymarket as part of an ongoing investigation.
