Key Points:
- Tigran Gambaryan stated that he would welcome the opportunity to serve his country again if asked, particularly in combating crypto crime under the current administration.
- His significant achievements in law enforcement occurred during Donald Trump’s presidency.
Tigran Gambaryan, who was kidnapped and unlawfully detained in Nigeria for eight months, expressed his readiness to fight crypto crime again under the new Trump administration.
For the past two years, Gambaryan has led financial crime compliance at Binance and is a former federal agent involved in many significant investigations during Trump’s presidency.
Gambaryan remarked, “While I am not a political person, some of my most consequential casework occurred during the President-Elect’s previous term. If given the opportunity, it would be an honor to serve my country again and work alongside the incredible men and women in federal law enforcement who worked tirelessly to bring me back to my family.”
He has received recommendations for prominent roles such as leading crypto assets at the SEC or a key position in the FBI’s cyber division from associates of the Bitcoin 2024 conference, attended by Trump.
Richard Teng, Binance’s CEO, stated: “As of now, Tigran is still a member of our staff, so let’s see what his intentions are.”
During his decade as an IRS investigator, Gambaryan played a pivotal role in high-profile cases such as the takedown of the child abuse video network Welcome to Video and the darknet marketplace Alpha Bay.
Gambaryan’s incident in Nigeria prompted considerable outrage from the crypto community, including attention from several members of Congress.
