Vitalik Buterin Reveals Overhaul of Leadership at Ethereum Foundation

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin announces a significant restructuring at the Ethereum Foundation to enhance technical expertise and operational efficiency.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin disclosed pivotal changes to the Ethereum Foundation (EF), a nonprofit entity in Switzerland that backs Ethereum’s development and community.

While ensuring that the EF’s fundamental mission will continue, Buterin stated a series of objectives focusing on enhancing the organization’s technical capabilities.

In a post on X, he detailed that the reforms will aim to boost technical proficiency among EF leaders, foster improved communication with developers and the community, and bring in new talent to elevate operational efficiency.

Buterin Aims for Decentralized Technology at EF

Buterin also accentuated his intention to broaden the EF’s embrace of decentralized and privacy-oriented technologies. However, he refuted demands for the EF to adopt a more aggressive lobbying position in support of Ethereum.

“If the EF were to start aggressively lobbying regulators, it could risk compromising Ethereum’s position as a global neutral platform,” Buterin expressed. He urged those with differing perspectives to establish their organizations instead of pursuing such alterations within the EF.

The announcement follows increased scrutiny of the EF’s leadership, with critics highlighting its perceived weaknesses. This debate has escalated, especially after President-elect Donald Trump unveiled his official memecoin on Solana, sparking further criticism regarding Ethereum’s leadership strategy.

Joseph Lubin, Ethereum co-founder and Consensys CEO, also commented, endorsing current EF executive director Aya Miyaguchi for steering the foundation effectively, though he called for a new approach to adapt to the industry’s changing dynamics. In a post on X, Lubin nominated Danny Ryan, pivotal in Ethereum’s transition to proof-of-stake, and Jerome de Tychey, president of Ethereum France, as a co-leadership model to inject creativity and innovative marketing into the EF.

Lubin emphasized, “Ethereum’s strength lies in its ability to adapt and thrive through collaboration. Together, we will shape the next chapter of Ethereum.”

Buterin Donates $170K to Support Tornado Cash Developers

Last month, Buterin made a substantial donation of 50 Ether (ETH), equivalent to around $170,000, to assist in the legal defense of Tornado Cash developers Roman Storm and Alexey Pertsev. According to the Juicebox project “Free Pertsev and Storm,” the funds are intended to aid the developers who are currently up against severe legal challenges.

Previously, Buterin had contributed 100 ETH, valued at $240,000, further showcasing his commitment to defending the developers amid rising concerns about governmental intervention in the crypto realm.
