Vitalik Buterin Takes Initiative Amid Ethereum Foundation Restructuring
Vitalik Buterin criticizes negative posts targeting Ethereum Foundation's leadership while announcing ongoing changes to the organization's structure.
It’s been a challenging time for the Ethereum Foundation, the organization that supports Ethereum, the leading blockchain behind Bitcoin. As Ethereum’s market share declines, it faces several controversies. Vitalik Buterin, its co-founder, is proposing a plan to restore its stability.
“We are indeed currently in the process of large changes to EF leadership structure, which has been ongoing for close to a year,” Buterin mentioned in a post on X. “Some of this has already been executed on and made public, and some is still in progress.”
Buterin outlined his vision to enhance technical skills in EF leadership and improve communication with the ecosystem.
He affirms that these changes aim not to centralize or politicize the foundation, stating that it won’t start lobbying aggressively or be influenced by vested interests.
The overhaul comes as Ethereum’s stature among developers has suffered. Many in the crypto community are shifting to faster and cheaper alternatives like Solana.
In the last year, the foundation has dealt with allegations of inefficacy and being overly dominant. This, along with conflict-of-interest issues, forced it to reassess its internal policies.
Some blame Aya Miyaguchi, the foundation’s director since 2018, for its struggles. Amid pressures for her dismissal, Buterin has taken a more central role in decision-making. “The person deciding the new EF leadership team is me,” he detailed in a statement. “A goal of this reform is to provide the EF with a proper board, but until that happens, it’s just me.”
Miyaguchi, despite the controversies, remains part of the organization. Buterin criticized her detractors on X, labeling some of their comments as “pure evil.”
“If you ‘keep the pressure on’, then you are creating an environment that is actively toxic to top talent,” Buterin wrote. “Some of Ethereum’s best devs are expressing their disgust with the toxic online atmosphere you are contributing to.”
