Eric Conner Leaves Ethereum as Vitalik Rejects Leadership Change Calls

Ethereum core developer Eric Conner departs the network after nearly 11 years, as Vitalik Buterin dismisses leadership change proposals.

Overview

Eric Conner, a notable core developer in the Ethereum community, has departed after nearly 11 years of involvement, attributing his exit to Vitalik Buterin’s disregard for proposals to revamp leadership within the network.

Conner’s departure is significant as he co-authored EIP-1559, a crucial update that transformed Ethereum’s transaction fee structure. Although he was never officially employed by Ethereum, his influence in advising and fostering ecosystem growth has been substantial since its inception.

In a recent post on X, Conner announced his transition to Fresya.AI, an AI-focused protocol.

Buterin has consistently rejected calls for a leadership overhaul at the Ethereum Foundation, which oversees the development of the network that ranks second in terms of market capitalization. He expressed a desire to create a management board but emphasized that he remains the leader for now. His comments come amid public demand for new leadership, with Anthony Donofrio highlighting that the blockchain appears to be off course.

Looking ahead, the network is gearing up for its Pectra upgrade, aimed at enhancing efficiency and speed, scheduled for March.
