Trump's Absence on Crypto Sparks Concerns at World Economic Forum

President Donald Trump spoke extensively about AI while significantly omitting references to cryptocurrency in his recent World Economic Forum address.

What to Know

  • President Donald Trump has promised action on crypto, yet the executive orders have not yet led to significant policy changes regarding digital assets.
  • His recent address at the World Economic Forum did include a brief mention of the crypto industry but primarily focused on AI initiatives instead.
  • A signing session for more executive orders is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at the White House.

Insights on Trump’s Address

The cryptocurrency sector is keenly awaiting proactive measures from U.S. President Donald Trump, who has recently assumed his position, yet there is no confirmation from the White House regarding a pending executive order on crypto. Although he addressed the sector in his World Economic Forum speech, highlighting domestic oil production as pivotal for U.S. manufacturing and AI growth, he neglected to elaborate on digital assets.

The crypto community will be on alert at 2:30 p.m. Eastern on Thursday when Trump is expected to sign new executive orders. While these orders lack legal force, they can influence the federal government’s focus.

Additionally, Trump is slated to have a discussion with crypto-friendly President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador at 3:30 p.m., a move that has already generated interest in Bitcoin’s market behavior.

Within the government, the Senate Banking Committee has set up its inaugural digital assets subcommittee, led by Senator Cynthia Lummis with other allies in the crypto sphere. This week, the Securities and Exchange Commission, recently chaired by Republican Mark Uyeda, also proposed a new crypto task force.
