Kraken Obtains EU License for Derivatives Trading

Crypto exchange Kraken has successfully acquired a MiFID license, allowing it to offer crypto derivatives in the European market.

Key Information

  • Crypto exchange Kraken has secured a Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) license in the European Union.
  • The acquisition of a Cypriot investment firm enabled Kraken to gain this license from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC).
  • This license permits Kraken to offer crypto derivatives products across 27 EU nations.

Kraken’s license acquisition is a strategic step in its expansion across Europe. Previously, the exchange bought Crypto Facilities, a crypto futures platform regulated by the FCA in the UK, in 2019.

“In the coming months, we will work on meeting the conditions to go live and launch the products in local EU markets,” the company stated in a recent blog post.
