Scroll, the team behind the layer-2 network, announced on Tuesday its intention to launch an SCR token to bolster the blockchain.

In a blog post, they revealed that the SCR token would kickstart their roadmap toward decentralization.

"SCR will be utilized as a primary governance mechanism of the protocol and will evolve into a utility token as Scroll transitions towards greater decentralization," the team mentioned. The initiative is set to allocate 15% of its total token supply for airdrops, with 7% designated for the first airdrop scheduled for October 22. In total, there will be 1 billion SCR tokens.

An additional 17% will go to investors, while 10% will support the Scroll Foundation, with the remainder earmarked for the Scroll ecosystem and its contributors.

The launch will occur via Binance Launchpool, receiving a 5.5% token allocation in rewards.

"We are prepared for the next chapter of Scroll – to build scalable, secure infrastructure and pursue real-world adoption on a global scale," stated the Scroll team in a blog post.
