eToro Gains MiCA Certification from Cyprus for European Crypto Services

The trading platform eToro secures a license to enhance its digital asset services across the European Economic Area.

What You Need to Know:

  • The trading firm eToro has achieved a license under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation.
  • This license facilitates the provision of crypto trading and custody services across all member countries of the European Economic Area.

On February 19, 2025, eToro announced it received regulatory approval under the EU’s MiCA framework, allowing it to extend cryptocurrency trading and custody offerings. This approval from the Cyprus Securities Exchange Commission indicates their capability to operate across the entire EEA.

The MiCA regulation, which mandates firms to obtain a crypto asset service provider license (CASP), has been fully operational since December, establishing a uniform legal structure for crypto services throughout the 27 EU nations. Obtaining this approval also enables access to Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway, which are outside the EU.

eToro is now among several crypto exchanges, including Bitpanda, OKX, and Crypto.com, that have secured MiCA licenses.

Originally based in Israel, eToro provides a mix of traditional trading options alongside cryptocurrency services and continues to expand its global footprint, having already secured a license in New York and joined the UK crypto register.
