Peter Todd Rejects Claims of Being Satoshi Nakamoto Ahead of HBO Documentary Release

In a press statement, Peter Todd refutes assertions made in an HBO documentary hinting that he might be the elusive Bitcoin creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.

Peter Todd, a pioneering developer in the Bitcoin space, firmly denied claims that he is Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, ahead of the release of an HBO documentary that suggested he might be.

Todd's public statement came just hours before the documentary's premiere. He remarked, "Of course I'm not Satoshi," and described the claims made by the filmmaker, Cullen Hoback, as him "grasping at straws."

In an email communication with CoinDesk, Todd confirmed his prior interview with Hoback but added that he has not seen the documentary yet.

"Yes, that interview did happen and I believe that specific shot isn’t deepfaked," he noted, further describing the notion that he is Satoshi as ironic, pointing out Hoback's previous work that highlighted conspiracy theories.

Todd referenced the theory as "ludicrous" even as clips circulated on social media suggested he may be Satoshi.

Key Points:

  • Todd denied being Satoshi in direct reference to the HBO documentary.
  • He criticized the reasoning behind associating him with Satoshi, likening it to conspiracy-based narratives.
  • The documentary brought forth the lack of concrete evidence tying Todd to Nakamoto's identity, although he acknowledged some circumstantial connections.

Despite previous speculation on various individuals like Hal Finney and Nick Szabo, Todd has not been a primary suspect until now, signifying the ongoing mystery surrounding Bitcoin's elusive creator.
