Starknet Introduces Its First Gaming Application-Chain

Nums, a sequential number game built upon Starknet’s technology, has officially become the first layer-3 application-chain to operate on the network.

Key Highlights:

  • Starknet is set to welcome its initial application-chain, leading to further integration on the Ethereum layer-2 framework.
  • The application-chain, dubbed Nums, utilizes the “SN Stack,” a customizable toolkit designed for developers to create their own layer-3 blockchains on Starknet.

Nums allows players to try to sequence a series of 20 generated numbers, with users rewarded in $NUMS tokens as they play, leveraging Starknet for token issuance.

StarkWare, the primary development firm behind Starknet, initially announced the creation of the SN Stack in July 2023. This step came in the wake of similar offerings from StarkWare’s competitors, such as Arbitrum’s Orbit Stack and Optimism’s OP Stack. StarkWare’s SN Stack went live this past January.

Even though various layer-2 solutions are currently operational and some layer-3 games exist, the Nums team believes Starknet’s framework supports more complex and ambitious applications. According to Tarrence van As, CEO of Cartridge, the leading developer company behind Nums, Starknet is easier to utilize for such applications because it uses Cairo as its programming language, which contrasts with Ethereum’s Solidity.

Cartridge is recognized for deploying its Dojo framework on Starknet, which facilitates game and application development within the network.
