• A U.S. crypto strategic reserve seems more probable after President Trump’s announcement over the weekend, according to a report by Citi.
• The President indicated that XRP, Solana (SOL), and Cardano (ADA) would be part of this reserve, later adding Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) to the list of assets.

Citi reported that the U.S. government holds approximately $19 billion in cryptocurrencies, largely in Bitcoin, contrasting with $750 billion in gold.

The majority of government holdings come from seizures, implying that additional digital assets could be acquired through open-market purchases.

However, the selection criteria regarding which tokens will be included remains unclear. Pre-announcing such investments may affect market prices against investors, as previously seen with the U.K. government and gold investments in the late 1990s. More detailed criteria would strengthen support for these initiatives.

In a previous report, broker Bernstein indicated that the Federal Reserve might fund cryptocurrency purchases by issuing debt or selling some of its gold reserves.
