The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has appointed Mike Selig as the chief counsel for its newly formed Crypto Task Force, marking a significant change in its regulatory stance towards the crypto industry. Selig, who practiced law at Willkie Farr, has extensive experience in cryptocurrency law.
Former CFTC Chairman Chris Giancarlo, also at Willkie Farr, shared his congratulations on social media, referring to Selig as his protege.
This appointment is expected to bolster the SEC’s capabilities in addressing complex regulatory challenges in the crypto sector as the task force aims to foster innovation while ensuring compliance.
As the task force convenes its first roundtable discussion on March 21 titled “How We Got Here and How We Get Out – Defining Security Status,” it signals a proactive approach to regulatory frameworks for cryptocurrencies.
