Ryan Salame's Prison Delay Attempt Thwarted by Dog Bite Claims
Ryan Salame, a former senior official at the bankrupt crypto exchange FTX, made last-ditch attempts to delay reporting to prison, citing injuries from a dog bite. However, a federal judge dismissed his claims, indicating that he was in good enough condition to serve his 7.5-year sentence.
Salame had aimed to push back his incarceration date due to a bite he allegedly received from a German shepherd. Initially set to begin his sentence on August 29, his reporting date was moved to October 11 after his first request, but he sought another extension this week.
An interview with Tucker Carlson, during which Salame appeared without visible impairments, likely influenced the judge's decision. Judge Lewis Kaplan of the U.S. District Court emphasized that Salame's condition did not warrant further delays.
Salame attempted to convince the court of a need for "urgent and necessary medical treatment" but was met with skepticism. He previously expressed defiance against the charges, showcasing his status as an inmate on social media.
Meanwhile, prosecutors are also looking into contributions made by Salame to Michelle Bond, a crypto advocate who ran for Congress in New York and is accused of taking illegal campaign funds.
