Kamala Harris to Advocate for Cryptocurrency Regulatory Framework During Speech Today

The Vice President is set to announce her support for a regulatory framework concerning cryptocurrencies and digital assets in a speech in Erie, Pennsylvania.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris will announce support for a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency and other digital assets during a campaign speech in Erie, PA, her campaign released on Monday morning.

The remarks will be part of a broader speech detailing an Opportunity Agenda aimed at strengthening support for Harris among Black men, as indicated by her campaign, without elaborating further on her specific comments regarding the digital asset industry.

"Vice President Harris knows that more than 20% of Black Americans own or have owned cryptocurrency assets, which is why her plans will ensure that owners and investors in digital assets benefit from a regulatory framework so that Black men and others who participate in this market are protected," a press release stated.

An attached document echoed similar sentiments, claiming her agenda would draw on insights from her experience throughout her career.

"Vice President Harris appreciates the ways in which new technologies can broaden access to banking and financial services," the document elaborated before reiterating the press release's statement about the framework.

Harris has not mentioned crypto frequently on the campaign trail, beyond a few literal mentions of the terms "digital assets" and "blockchain" at fundraisers and in policy documentation. In contrast, former President Donald Trump has made numerous overtures towards the crypto industry, promising friendly regulators and claiming he would establish a "bitcoin and crypto advisory council" during the Bitcoin Nashville industry conference.

Last month, Trump visited PubKey, a Bitcoin bar in New York City, purchasing burgers with bitcoin with the assistance of the bar's staff.

Crypto industry representatives have commissioned several polls to gauge voter interest in the sector. A Harris Poll (unrelated to the Vice President) conducted by Grayscale revealed that 77% of likely voters want candidates to be well-informed about crypto, and 21% of respondents hold some form of cryptocurrency.
