Trump Promotes New Crypto Token Amid Lackluster Sales

Donald Trump advertised the WLFI token from World Liberty Financial after its initial sales fell significantly short of expectations.

U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump took to the social-media platform X to promote World Liberty Financial, a new crypto project endorsed by his family, following a disappointing initial sale of its new WLFI tokens. The tokens were made available earlier on Tuesday, and about $9 million were sold by the time of writing, only about 3% of the target amount.

Trump's promotion occurred later in the day on Tuesday, several hours after the tokens went live. He stated in his announcement, "Today’s the day!"

The WLFI token is designated as a governance token for the platform which allows users to engage in decentralized finance (DeFi) activities such as borrowing, lending, and liquidity provision. Despite Trump's endorsement, the token sale was marked by several website outages, leading to a failure to generate increased purchase activity immediately after his announcement.
