Metaplanet announced on Monday its acquisition of an additional 150 bitcoin (BTC), bringing its total to 3,350 BTC, valued at approximately $291 million at current market rates.
This purchase occurred just days after Eric Trump joined Metaplanet’s newly formed strategic advisory board, where he is expected to offer high-profile insights into the firm’s goals.
Metaplanet aims to increase shareholder value by acquiring and holding bitcoin, utilizing a metric called BTC Yield to evaluate the effectiveness of this strategy.
BTC Yield reflects the percentage change in their bitcoin holdings in contrast to the total number of shares, recorded over a specific timeframe. From July to September 2024, the company’s BTC Yield was 41.7%, indicating steady growth of their bitcoin reserves compared to shares. This figure surged to 309.8% from October to December 2024 as the price of bitcoin soared post-acquisition.
As of 2025, from January 1 to March 24, they have achieved a BTC Yield of 68.3%, as confirmed by Monday’s documents.
In a social media update, Dylan LeClair, Metaplanet’s Head of Bitcoin Strategy, highlighted that the company ended the day ranked as the 13th most liquid stock in Japan, with a notable daily trading volume of $336.6 million, surpassing prominent firms like Toyota and Nintendo, closing 7% higher at over 5,000 yen.
