Ethereum's Final Pectra Test Launches on the Hoodi Network

The last planned test for Ethereum's Pectra upgrade took place on the Hoodi testnet, paving the way for a major update in the next 30 days.

What to know:

  • The final planned test of Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade took place on Wednesday on the new Hoodi testnet.
  • Two previous tests on the Holesky and Sepolia test networks failed to finalize properly.
  • The upgrade is the most significant for Ethereum in over a year, focusing on improving the developer experience and making the platform easier to use.
  • Developers aim to activate Pectra on Ethereum’s main network in about 30 days, pending successful results from this test.

The final dress rehearsal for Ethereum’s upcoming Pectra upgrade was successfully conducted, marking a significant event as the network prepares for its biggest changes in over a year.

The upgrade was closely monitored due to previous failures in making proper implementations on other test networks, Holesky and Sepolia. A new environment, Hoodi, has been established to ensure smoother transitions and testing scenarios.

During this test, multiple code updates were subjected to various scenarios to enhance user-friendliness for both end-users and developers alike. Innovations include adding smart contract capabilities to wallets, allowing for transaction fees to be paid using different cryptocurrencies beyond just Ether (ETH).

Hoodi is the last of three testnets used for simulating the Pectra upgrade. Following a successful outcome on Wednesday, developers will keep a close eye on the upgrade for approximately 30 days before initiating it on Ethereum’s primary network.
