Worldcoin's Transformation: Eye-Scanning Orbs Can Now Be Requested Like a Pizza
Worldcoin executives reveal plans for faster, simpler eye-scanning technology at a recent media event.
Worldcoin's project is rebranding and introducing a faster and simpler "Orb" for iris scanning. Now simply branded as "World," the project's aim remains to create an identity-confirmation system allowing users to anonymously verify their humanity online. They have launched devices that scan irises in exchange for WLD crypto tokens and a global identity.
In a recent media event, Sam Altman, a prominent figure in AI, and co-founder Alex Blania announced plans for "Orb 2.0." This enhanced version will be easier to manufacture, equipped with better technology, and utilize open source coding.
Chief designer Rich Heley stated, "We need more orbs, lots more orbs, probably on the order of 1,000 more orbs than we have today. Not only more orbs, but more orbs in more places."
The company will expand its presence with "premium verification experiences" in urban areas like Buenos Aires and Mexico City, and even facilitate the ordering of orbs through a mobile app, comparing it to ordering a pizza.
Though the orbs serve as World’s verification point, the initiative is also pushing to streamline the adoption of its identity system by allowing people to register using their government-issued IDs.
Chief Information Security Officer Adiran Ludwig remarked, "Of course, they won’t have used an orb, so we won’t truly verify they’re human; we’ll just know they possess a passport."
New capabilities called World ID Deep Faces will allow internet users to ensure that those they interact with online aren’t deepfakes, provided they possess a World ID. Following this presentation, the WLD token experienced a decline of about 5%.
