Rootstock Set to Unveil SDKs for Bitcoin Layer 2s with BitVMX
Rootstock's founder, Sergio Lerner, highlights the importance of Bitcoin Layer 2 solutions for ensuring BTC serves as "money for the people".
What to Know
- One of the oldest Bitcoin ecosystem projects is advancing to enable developers to construct layer-2 networks using its computational layer.
- Sergio Lerner expressed in an interview, “We are very close to having all the pieces ready for people to start building their own solutions on top of BitVMX.”
- Rootstock’s BitVMX project utilizes the BitVM framework proposed by Robin Linus in 2023, allowing the creation of Ethereum-style smart contracts on Bitcoin.
While Rootstock continues to evolve, it is also exploring tools for developers to enhance Bitcoin’s capabilities. The framework aims to boost Bitcoin’s interoperability through its BitVMX platform, which is aimed at simplifying the development of adaptable Layer 2 solutions. He has communicated a need for Bitcoin to serve its original intention of being “money for the people,” rather than solely acting as a store of value.
“If all BTC just end up in ETFs, they will all be controlled by financial institutions and there will be no more Bitcoin as we know it,” he remarked.
BitVMX Platform
Rootstock has aligned with Fairgate to leverage BitVMX for expanding Bitcoin’s use, also collaborating with Input | Output (IO) to enhance standardization within their protocols. Their initiative, termed “BitVMX Force,” is dedicated to facilitating Bitcoin’s future upgrades and robustness.
Through this consortium, the exchange of assets among Bitcoin, Rootstock, and Cardano will be enabled, contributing to a larger community geared towards advancing competitive blockchain networks.
