Metaplanet’s Bitcoin Acquisition
Metaplanet has confirmed a new purchase of 330 BTC valued at approximately $28 million as Bitcoin’s price exceeded $87,300, reversing last week’s declines.
This latest acquisition marks the company’s third Bitcoin buy this month, establishing it as one of the top public holders of the cryptocurrency with a total of 4,855 BTC valued at more than $420 million at current rates.
Key Points:
- The broader markets have been experiencing instability due to tariff concerns, but Bitcoin has showed resilience, outperforming U.S. equities. Metaplanet’s stock rose nearly 0.9% on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
- Earlier in the month, another Japanese company, ANAP Holdings, bought approximately 16.6591 BTC, also amid market volatility.
- Metaplanet plans to evaluate its BTC holdings quarterly with any financial impacts reflected in its reports. Its Bitcoin yield currently stands at 12.1% this quarter, down from 95% previously.
Bitcoin’s performance is noteworthy, especially when compared to U.S. equities, which together lost $5.4 trillion after recent tariff announcements, a stark contrast to Bitcoin’s relatively minor 6% drop during the same period.
