Bhutan Partners With Binance Pay for Groundbreaking National Crypto Tourism Payment System

Bhutan has become the first nation globally to implement a national cryptocurrency payment system aimed at revolutionizing tourism. On May 7, 2025, the Bhutanese government declared a partnership with Binance Pay, the payment division of the world’s leading cryptocurrency exchange. DK Bank, a local institution, will assist in managing cryptocurrency transactions.

“Whether you’re flying in, checking into a hotel, or picking up handmade crafts in a village shop, the entire Bhutan travel experience can now be powered by crypto,” said Binance. “This approach not only simplifies travel logistics but also removes some of the most persistent pain points in cross-border tourism.”

Netizens reacted positively to this initiative. “The world is steadily moving toward mass crypto adoption — one country at a time,” commented Twitter user Tom Tucker. Many hailed Bhutan’s effort as a “game changer” for the tourism and financial sectors.

Furthermore, this initiative aims to enable local businesses in rural areas to embrace digital currency, showcasing a tangible example of how cryptocurrency can enhance inclusion and innovation.

Changpeng Zhao (CZ), the CEO of Binance, expressed his enthusiasm about the project:

“Pay in crypto with Binance in Bhutan!”
