Crypto Traders Face $500M Loss as Bitcoin Stabilizes Near $108K Following Trump's Tariff Generalizations

Recent threats from President Donald Trump regarding tariffs on European imports have stirred up the cryptocurrency market, leading to significant liquidations and losses.

In the past day, bullish positions in the crypto market recorded losses exceeding $500 million as President Donald Trump renewed threats about tariffs on imports from Europe and Apple products, triggering panic liquidations.

Key Points:

    • The most significant single liquidation amounted to $9.53 million tied to a BTC-USDT trade on OKX, reflecting the erratic behavior of the market.
    • Bitcoin prices, previously hovering above $111,000, have now fallen to around $108,600, significantly affecting investor confidence.
    • Altcoins like Ether, Solana, XRP, and Dogecoin faced losses ranging from $30 million to over $100 million as liquidation waves washed across the sector.

The sharp decline in Bitcoin was echoed throughout the crypto landscape, with futures of Ethereum and various altcoins racking up substantial liquidations. Specifically, Bitcoin futures lost about $181 million, with Ethereum accounting for close to $142 million in losses. Altcoins collectively added another $100 million to this tally, including significant decreases in SOL, DOGE, and XRP.

Market evaluations show that such liquidations often signal extreme conditions, whether from panic selling or sudden bullish actions. This recent downturn comes at a time when Bitcoin appeared to be gaining momentum due to inflows into ETFs and rising institutional interests, stirring hopes for a calm trading weekend.

However, these tariff threats have revived volatility, suggesting that traders might need to brace for uncertainty in the upcoming week.
