Rise in Global Crypto Ownership: UK Leads the Charts in 2025

A recent survey by Gemini indicates a surge in global cryptocurrency ownership, especially within the UK, where ownership has increased significantly.

Crypto adoption among consumers surged in 2025, especially in the UK, as reported in Gemini’s 2025 Global State of Crypto report released on Tuesday. UK ownership surged to 24%, an increase from 18% in 2024. Other noteworthy figures include France at 21%, up from 18%, while the US edged up to 21% and Singapore topped the list with 28%, an increase from 26% based on a recent survey by the exchange.

Continued Confidence in Crypto

Former President Trump’s announcement of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve helped instill greater confidence in digital currencies. 23% of American non-owners indicated that this announcement improved their trust in cryptocurrencies, a sentiment also echoed in the UK (21%) and Singapore (19%).

The meme coins market is emerging as a substantial entry point for new investors. In the US, 31% of those who hold both meme coins and standard cryptocurrencies reported that they began with the former. Similar trends were observed in Australia (30%), the UK (28%), and other countries, with 94% of meme coin holders possessing additional crypto assets.

Furthermore, spot crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are gaining traction, with 39% of US crypto investors currently holding ETFs, showcasing growth from the previous year’s 37%. Italy leads this category with 47%, followed closely by the UK (41%), Singapore (40%), Australia (38%), and France (32%).

Gemini surveyed a total of 7,205 consumers across the US, UK, France, Italy, Australia, and Singapore between March and April 2025.
