The restructuring of legal roles at cryptocurrency exchange OKX continues with the exit of its global general counsel, Melissa Muehlfeld. Muehlfeld joined the company, which is the U.S. branch of OKX, in May 2022 as the deputy general counsel and later advanced to the role of global general counsel in August 2024.
Since OKX settled with the U.S. Department of Justice for half a billion dollars in February 2025, it has seen several top legal personnel changes, including the departures of Mauricio Beugelmans, the former chief legal officer, and Vanessa Zhang, the head of compliance.
The firm has appointed Linda Lacewell, the former head of the New York Department of Financial Services, to take over as chief legal officer following Beugelmans’ departure. Lacewell is reportedly in the process of restructuring the organization’s legal and compliance divisions.
“As a matter of company policy, we do not comment on all personnel changes,” an OKX spokesperson stated via email.
Muehlfeld has yet to respond to requests for comments regarding her departure.
