Kraken Chooses Optimism's 'Superchain' for New Layer-2 Network with Substantial Token Grant
Kraken has decided to build a layer-2 network using Optimism's OP Stack, bolstered by a generous grant of OP tokens worth $42.5 million.
Kraken's Strategic Move
Kraken, a prominent cryptocurrency exchange, has recently announced its venture into developing a layer-2 network using Optimism's OP Stack blockchain framework. This partnership includes a significant grant of 25 million OP tokens, valued at approximately $42.5 million at the current market rate.
The agreement originated earlier this year, positioning Kraken alongside other notable participants in the 'Superchain' initiative, which also incorporates layer-2 networks from Coinbase and Sony, as well as the decentralized exchange Uniswap.
This bold move signifies Kraken’s commitment to leveraging Optimism’s scalable technology, facilitating the creation of customized layer-2 rollups and enhancing their operational capabilities within the rapidly evolving blockchain ecosystem.
The Optimism Foundation has confirmed the total number of tokens allocated for this project, emphasizing the ongoing commitment to nurturing developer engagement within their ecosystem. This grant structure is designed to unlock additional funding based on transaction milestones achieved by Kraken’s new initiative, Ink.
Koller noted the competitive rate for their allocation, aligning it with similar arrangements within the 'Superchain' framework. This strategic collaboration is anticipated to drive growth and innovation in the blockchain space, further solidifying Kraken's position in the cryptocurrency market.
As the blockchain landscape continues to evolve, the importance of such partnerships will only grow, fostering new opportunities for developers and enhancing user experiences across various platforms.
