Stacks Activates Long-Awaited Upgrade to Enhance Bitcoin Transactions
The Stacks project has confirmed the deployment of its Nakamoto upgrade, promising faster transactions and improved irreversibility akin to Bitcoin.
Stacks, a layer-2 blockchain project built on Bitcoin, announced on Tuesday that it has activated its long-awaited Nakamoto upgrade, aimed at speeding up transactions.
The project's official account on X stated that "Stacks transactions once confirmed are now at least as irreversible as Bitcoin's," and highlighted the "significant reduction in transaction times."
Moreover, the upgrade will establish a foundation for the anticipated launch of sBTC later this year.
Muneeb Ali, a Princeton-educated computer scientist who co-founded Stacks and serves as CEO of Trust Machines, emphasized that this upgrade is a major milestone in scaling Bitcoin's capabilities as a leading layer-2 solution amidst a surge of similar projects in recent years.
Ali has referred to Bitcoin as the "apex predator" within the blockchain space, despite competition from more versatile smart contract platforms like Ethereum and Solana, which host various applications in decentralized finance and gaming.
The Nakamoto upgrade has been central to Stacks' roadmap since its early phases of implementation began earlier this year, preceding several delays before the full activation.
