Chainlink Launches New Runtime Environment to Enhance Blockchain Development

Chainlink has introduced its new Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE) designed to simplify blockchain application development and cross-chain operations.

Chainlink has revealed its latest product, the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE), which is engineered to facilitate the development of blockchain applications across various platforms.

The aim of the CRE is to deliver a singular environment that enhances cross-chain operations, much like how Java Runtime Environment (JRE) transformed Java application development.

Features of CRE include:

  • Modular Design: Enables scalable, privacy-oriented financial workflows utilizing components such as Decentralized Oracle Networks (DONs).
  • Privacy Focused: Supports institutional transactions by enabling privacy through advanced cryptographic methods, including zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs).

During the launch at SmartCon in Hong Kong, Nazarov expressed his hopes that the CRE will play a pivotal role in Web3, similar to the historical impacts of Cobol and Java.

"The Chainlink Runtime Environment is the framework in which code can run to interconnect all blockchains, all Oracle networks, and existing APIs," said Nazarov.

Nazarov further emphasized that the CRE represents a significant evolution from predefined services to a more flexible, microservices-style framework, facilitating faster and more efficient decentralized application development.

In the upcoming phases, the CRE will be accessible in early access, with a full rollout scheduled for 2025, enabling developers to explore and integrate its features into their workflows ahead of broader adoption.
