Japan’s Metaplanet Increases Bitcoin Holdings by 1,112: Reaches Total of 10,000 BTC

Metaplanet, a leading investment firm in Japan, has significantly boosted its Bitcoin reserve to a total of 10,000 BTC after acquiring an additional 1,112 Bitcoins through zero-interest bonds.

Japan’s equivalent to a corporate investment strategy, Metaplanet, has successfully added 1,112 Bitcoins to its assets, increasing its total holdings to a remarkable 10,000 BTC as of June 16, 2025. This acquisition cements Metaplanet’s status as Asia’s largest corporate Bitcoin holder and places it seventh among publicly traded companies worldwide based on Bitcoin reserves.

To support this purchase, Metaplanet issued zero-interest bonds valued at $210 million.

Simon Gerovich, the CEO of Metaplanet, made the announcement on X, indicating that the firm procured 1,112 BTC for $117.2 million, at an approximate cost of $105,435 per Bitcoin, achieving a year-to-date BTC yield of 266.1% for 2025. He noted:

“As of June 16, 2025, we hold 10,000 BTC acquired for $947 million at $94,697 per Bitcoin,” said Gerovich.

This significant acquisition underscores the growing trend of corporate entities accumulating Bitcoin as a strategic asset. Metaplanet has aligned itself with similar companies like GameStop and Strategy that are leading the way in corporate Bitcoin adoption.

In recent remarks, Strategy’s CEO, Michael Saylor, praised Metaplanet for adhering to the philosophy of consistently increasing Bitcoin holdings, reinforcing the notion that companies should act before Bitcoin becomes scarce.

“Congratulations to @Gerovich, @DylanLeClair_, and the entire $MTPLF team and their shareholders,” Saylor expressed in a tweet.

This shift in corporate strategy not only highlights the rising institutional interest in cryptocurrencies but also indicates that Bitcoin’s position in the financial ecosystem continues to grow, as major players like Strategy have also ramped up their investments, recently purchasing 4,020 Bitcoins valued at nearly $427 million.
