What You Need to Know
- AgriFORCE Growing Systems has launched a bitcoin mining operation in Berwyn, Alberta, utilizing stranded natural gas to operate 120 ASIC miners.
- The facility produces over 32 petahashes per second (PH/s) and intends to increase capacity by an additional 200 kW.
- AgriFORCE aims to scale its computing power to 1 exahash per second by Q1 2026, focusing on integrating energy markets with decentralized infrastructure.
AgriFORCE has initiated its first bitcoin mining and digital computing site in Alberta, powered by stranded natural gas from a collaboration with BlueFlare Energy. This site is part of a broader strategy to transform off-grid natural gas into energy-backed digital facilities.
The Berwyn site currently uses 425 kW and achieves over 32 PH/s. An upcoming phase will expand its capacity by another 200 kW, while BlueFlare provides emissions monitoring and real-time telemetry through its proprietary systems.
The trend of using flared gas for bitcoin mining aims to utilize a cost-effective energy source, allowing miners to alleviate financial pressures from market changes. This initiative reflects AgriFORCE’s strategy of mining, constructing modular infrastructure, and monetizing energy.
In cooperation with BlueFlare, AgriFORCE plans to enhance operations at two additional Alberta locations, Oyen and Hinton. This expansion could collectively add 1.3 MW of natural-gas-powered computing capacity for broader applications including AI and industrial computing.
AgriFORCE’s approach bypasses dependency on traditional energy grids, harnessing unused reserves to quickly bring them into operation. As of now, the company has mined seven BTC across its locations in Alberta and Ohio, with intentions to retain half of the mined bitcoin while reinvesting the rest for growth.
