Visa Enhances Stablecoin Operations in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa

Visa has expanded its stablecoin services throughout the CEMEA region and partnered with the African crypto exchange Yellow Card.

Overview

Visa has significantly ramped up its stablecoin capabilities throughout the Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa (CEMEA) regions. The financial giant has also forged a crucial partnership with the African crypto exchange Yellow Card.

Key Points

  • In a statement, Visa asserted that by 2025, every financial institution handling money will likely need to have a stablecoin strategy.
  • The collaboration with Yellow Card will delve into cross-border payment options, optimization of treasury operations, and improved liquidity management.

Recent Developments

Visa appears to be intensifying its focus on stablecoins, identifying these digital assets as the emerging backbone for online payment processes. Just last month, the firm invested in BVNK, a company known for stablecoin-based payments. To date, Visa has settled more than $225 million in stablecoin volume through its clients, embracing Circle’s USDC stablecoin since 2023.

“In 2025, we believe that every institution that moves money will need a stablecoin strategy,” said Godfrey Sullivan, Visa’s Senior Vice President and Head of Product and Solution for CEMEA.

Together with Yellow Card, Visa aims to bridge the gap between traditional finance and the evolution of monetary transfers. Chris Maurice, Yellow Card’s Co-Founder and CEO, stated, “We look forward to continuing to innovate new solutions that can transform how money moves for even more secure, efficient, and transparent payment solutions.”
