HIVE Digital to Establish AI-Focused Data Center in Toronto

HIVE Digital Technologies is set to acquire a data center in Toronto to enhance its AI infrastructure through its BUZZ HPC division.

HIVE Digital Technologies is acquiring a 7.2-megawatt data center in Toronto, aiming to build AI infrastructure via its subsidiary, BUZZ HPC.

The facility will be enhanced with liquid cooling and support up to 5,000 GPUs for AI training and other workloads. This acquisition represents a pivotal move for BUZZ HPC, as HIVE transitions from crypto mining to AI and cloud services.

Highlights:

  • HIVE’s first Tier 3 facility is set to reinforce AI capabilities.
  • The infrastructure will cater to Canadian enterprises and bolster national digital sovereignty.

“With the explosion of demand for HPC and AI compute capacity, this Toronto site gives us a critical footprint to develop a sovereign AI data center — owned and operated in Canada by a Canadian public company — ensuring data residency, security, and national innovation leadership,” stated Craig Tavares, President and COO of BUZZ HPC.

The global competition to build national AI infrastructure underscores the importance of such developments.
