Trump Likely to Favor Pardons for Jan. 6 Protestors Over Silk Road Creator

Polymarket data suggests that Donald Trump would more likely pardon January 6 protestors than Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road.

Protesters from January 6 are perceived as more likely to be pardoned than Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road, in a potential second term for Trump, as indicated by bets on Polymarket.

According to Polymarket bettors, there is an 86% likelihood that the January 6 protesters would receive a pardon, while Ulbricht's chances stand at 78%.

Trump has publicly maintained that January 6 protesters are patriots caught in a political crossfire, arguing that the legal system is biased against them and his supporters. He has classified the events of that day as a 'day of love', suggesting that those involved were simply reacting to an allegedly rigged election.

During his campaign, Trump promised to commute Ulbricht's sentence and pardon January 6 defendants if re-elected, presenting these commitments as part of a stand against government overreach and in support of personal liberties.

Trump has pledged at events like the Libertarian National Convention to liberate Ulbricht, who is serving a double life sentence for non-violent offenses related to Silk Road, a marketplace that showcased Bitcoin's capabilities as a decentralized system.

Ulbricht's mother is actively campaigning for his release, arguing that his punishment may contravene the Eighth Amendment's prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment, especially in light of more lenient penalties given to others involved with Silk Road.

Bettors are also considering the chance of Trump pardoning himself (14%) and Sam Bankman-Fried (6%).
