Metaplanet Boosts BTC Holdings to Over 17,000 with New Acquisition
Metaplanet has expanded its Bitcoin (BTC) portfolio by adding another 780 BTC, bringing its total holdings to 17,132 BTC.
Metaplanet, Asia’s most aggressive corporate Bitcoin holder, has recently increased its Bitcoin (BTC) collection by acquiring 780 additional Bitcoins. This move elevates their total BTC holdings to 17,132.
The official purchase was documented on July 28, 2025, and traces back to Metaplanet’s initiation of its Bitcoin Treasury Operations in December 2024. The firm had already acquired substantial BTC units through proceeds from its capital market activities and operational income.
Just a month prior, the company’s BTC reserve was reported to be 13,350, showcasing an extraordinary growth of over 1,000 BTC in just a few weeks. Metaplanet spent an average of ¥17.52M (around $119,136) for each Bitcoin, summing up to a total of ¥13.67 billion ($92.93 million) for this acquisition round.
This surge in holdings corresponds with heightened trading activity of Metaplanet on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE). In June alone, the company witnessed its trading volume expand dramatically from ¥997.6 billion ($6.78 billion) to ¥1.86 trillion ($12.65 billion).
🚀 Just when you thought Metaplanet was done stacking sats, they add 780 more Bitcoin! Now holding a whopping 17,132 BTC worth over $2B! 💰 Talk about a digital treasure chest! 🏴☠️
Translation: Just when you thought Metaplanet had finished accumulating, they secured 780 more Bitcoins! Their total now stands at 17,132 BTC valued at over $2 billion.
Metaplanet’s growing collection of BTC emphasizes investor interest as it aggressively pursues a digital asset strategy integrated within a broader Bitcoin Treasury framework. The company managed this expansion through a mix of share issues and bond redemptions, a practice that, according to experts, tends to dilute existing shares significantly.
Metaplanet continues to emphasize that owning its stock does not grant direct ownership of its BTC holdings, which, while structured to attract long-term investors, raises questions about traditional financial metrics such as cash flow.
