Ethereum's ENS to Launch New Layer-2 Blockchain, Namechain
ENS Labs is set to unveil Namechain, a new layer-2 blockchain leveraging zero-knowledge rollups by late 2025.
ENS Labs, the organization behind the Ethereum Name Service, is advancing its plans to introduce a dedicated layer-2 blockchain named Namechain. This new venture is expected to utilize zero-knowledge rollups for enhanced scalability and efficiency, aiming to launch around the end of 2025.
Why Namechain?
The new blockchain will leverage a pre-existing zero-knowledge framework that is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine. According to Katherine Wu, the Chief Operating Officer of ENS Labs, "This technology allows Namechain to execute transactions outside the main Ethereum network while maintaining its security, but at a much lower cost."
What this means for users?
The transition to Namechain should be seamless, preserving the existing user experience while reducing transaction fees. As Nick Johnson, co-founder of ENS Labs, stated, "Namechain represents ENS's next evolution, promising improvements in scalability and enabling innovative applications."
The development of Namechain follows several announcements from other leading crypto firms launching their own layer-2 projects, showcasing a significant trend within the blockchain space.
