Arizona's Ruben Gallego Triumphs, Fairshake's Influence Evident in Election
Democrat Ruben Gallego secures Arizona Senate seat with significant backing from Fairshake amidst broader electoral shifts.
Democrat Ruben Gallego secured the Arizona Senate seat by defeating Republican Kari Lake. Despite Democrats losing control of the Senate in the 2024 elections, Gallego's victory mitigated some of the losses.
Republicans will hold 53 seats for at least the next two years, having flipped states such as Pennsylvania, Ohio, Montana, and West Virginia last week. The cryptocurrency-focused super PAC, Fairshake, significantly backed the Ohio race, supporting Republican Bernie Moreno with a staggering $40 million.
Gallego, a congressman from Arizona, voted in favor of legislation beneficial to financial innovation and was supported by Fairshake with $10 million in funding. Fairshake endorsed another Democrat, Elissa Slotkin, who won her Senate race in Michigan. Prediction platforms such as Polymarket and Kalshi projected Gallego’s victory consistently.
As of the latest reports, 16 House races remain uncalled. Republicans have achieved 214 wins, just four short of a majority for the upcoming Congressional term, while Democrats have claimed 205. Despite these numbers, Republicans are favored to seize control.
Fairshake backed 56 candidates across House and Senate races focusing on safe districts, including significant opposition against Democrat Katie Porter in California. Though some results appear to be slipping for the Democrats, such as Yadira Caraveo and Mike Garcia conceding their respective races, others still lead.
